Peter Groom was the son of Job Groom and Polly Mary (Bloom). He married Martha Ann Shoemaker on March 7, 1842 in Washington Township, Franklin Co., OH. She was the daughter of Malachai J. Shoemaker and Susannah (Shafer). To this union five children were born; Morrison Penny, Sarah, Nancy Jane, Job, and Catharine Hannah.
