William Conner McKenzie, 88, of Fernwood, died Aug. 16, 2007, at his residence. Services were 10 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb, with the Rev. Troy Bankston and the Rev. Hugh Lambert officiating. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery.

Mr. McKenzie was born Sept. 16, 1918, in Fernwood, to William Harrison McKenzie and Queen Ann Phelps McKenzie.

He was a retired automotive mechanic for Day Motors, where he had 24 years of service.

Mr. McKenzie was considered to be the top Corvette mechanic in the nation. His family said that when General Motors had a problem with a Corvette, Mr. McKenzie was the one they called on to correct the problem.

He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Magnolia, where he served as a deacon. Mr. McKenzie's family referred to him as a great father and grandfather and a man of faith. He was a man who loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible there.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Louise Reeves McKenzie; a granddaughter, Sandi Estess; a great-granddaughter, Kelli Smith; a grandson-in-law, Dwayne Smith; a son-in-law, Glynn Estess; seven brothers, Felder McKenzie, Leslie McKenzie, Lionel McKenzie, Percy McKenzie, Jesse McKenzie, Norman McKenzie and Philip McKenzie; and three sisters, Eloise Adams, Minnie Faye Van Norman and Lillian McKenzie.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise and Charles Foster of Fernwood and Lillian Estess of Magnolia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Totsie McKenzie and Winfred H. and Peggy McKenzie, all of McComb; a sister, Lucille Bates of Liberty; six grandchildren and their spouses, Debra and Bill Pendleton, DeWayne and Carolyn Foster and Janice and Mike Stewart, all of McComb, Dianne and Paul Cutrer of Magnolia, Glynn and Jeannie Estess of Osyka and Jinifer and Scotty Cooper of Longview, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Craig Callihan and Heather Smith, all of Kentwood, La., Amy and E.J. Brumfield, Kaylei Cooper and Casen-Scott Cooper, all of Fernwood, Bridget and Teddy Temple, Lane Foster, Beth Stewart, Brandon Foster, Lindsay Pendleton and Ashley Pendelton, all of McComb, Amanda and Josh Reagan and Richard Paul Cutrer, all of Magnolia, and Sam Estess of Osyka; nine great-great-grandchildren, Lillie Paige Callihan, Keelie Callihan and Madison Callihan, all of Kentwood, Anna-Grace Temple and Emma-Claire Temple of McComb, Allei-Gayle Reagan and Will Reagan of Magnolia, and Eli Brumfield of Fernwood and Cooper Puryear of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Glen Forman, Brandon Foster, Lane Foster, Richard Paul Cutrer, Steve McKenzie and Larry McKenzie. Memorials may be sent to the American Lung Association of Mississippi, P.O. Box 2178, Ridgeland, MS 39158-2178.
