Dojna G. Barr, MD, age 78, at peace, Saturday October 30th, 2010 at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. To sing a Dojna, is to sing a love ballad. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and health giver, Dojna nurtured all she touched. Dojna was born January 18th, 1932 in Belgrade Yugoslavia to Ellena (Naum) and Stojan Galich. She over came the atrocities of World War II and the subsequent communist repression, receiving a Degree in Medicine, serving a Residency in Psychiatry at Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital, and Board Certification as a Fellow in Pediatrics, and a multiple Fellow in Child, Adult and Geriatric Physchiatry. Treating patients in Will, Grundy, Du Page and LaSalle Counties, Dr. Barr was the Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Chicago's Ridgeway Hospital, Naperville's Linden Oaks Hospital and the Ottawa Hospital. She was one of the first female staff members at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, serving in that capacity for over 35 years. Dojna was a multi-disciplinary creator, a passionate painter of still life and a writer of novels which bridge her Serbian heritage with the modern world. Dojna published eight novels and in recognition of her literary achievements received the 2008 Fyodor Dostoyevsky Literary Award, and Peter Kocic Foundation Modern Literature Award. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, the Honorable William G. Barr, Dojna loved spending time with her son, daughter-in law and grandchildren and will be deeply missed. Dojna is survived by her son, George Barr, and daughter in-law, Donna J. (McGee) Barr; her grandchildren, Aaron W. Barr, Lauren A. Barr and Ian G. Barr; her sisters, Adina (Galich) Rakocevich MD. (Sava), and Urania Galich Djucovich M.D. (Bora); step-son, Michael Barr; step-daughters, Susan Helberg and Kathleen Kruger; and cousin, Maria Naum (Bogdan). The Barr Family wishes to thank Dojna's caregivers, Dr. Suh, Dr. Kravets, Dr. Gunderson, and the skilled staff at Provena St. Joseph's Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and Oncology Unit. Funeral services for Donja G. Barr will be Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Dojna G. Barr's name to Provena St. Joseph Foundation and Joliet Catholic Academy, would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday, from 2-7 p.m. at: FRED C.
