According to the custodian at Old St. Patrick's, the Fitzgeralds entombed here are forbears of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, whose maternal great-great grandparents were Ellen (nee Wilmouth) Fitzgerald and Michael Fitzgerald. Ellen and Michael's son Thomas (1835-1885) was the father of famed Boston politician "Honey Fitz", President Kennedy's maternal grandfather. The Edmund Fitzgerald interred here may be a collateral ancestor. In 1999 the New York memorial service for JFK, Jr. was held at Old St. Patrick's, a choice which may reflect ancestral connections to this historic church.
