Vivian was the daughter of Harry G. and Mae (Foltz) Parnell and the sister of Evelyn Parnell Bryan all of whom have preceded her in death. She was the widow of Lawrence (Larry) Allen Hanes. Her first twelve years of education were in the Ben Davis Schools (Indianapolis). After graduation she attended DePauw University, Indianapolis Teachers College, Indiana University, and earned her BS degree in education at Butler University. She taught primary grades in Wayne and Decatur Townships for 25 years. She loved children and worked with Junior High School girls as a volunteer with the YWCA day camp program and Girl Reserve Clubs for 10 years. She was active in the United Methodist Churches at Speedway, Ruskin, FL, and Sun City Center, FL. Graveside and inurnment services were held November 6, 2010 in the chapel in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
