Bobby Gordon, 73, of McComb passed away on May 17, 2008, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland with his family by his side. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jones Family Funeral Services in McComb, and Tuesday at First Baptist Church in McComb from 10 a.m. until services there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, with the Rev. Johnny Lee Taylor officiating.

Mr. Gordon was born June 9, 1934, in McComb to the late Tom and Alma Jennings Gordon.

He graduated from McComb High School in 1952, and was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and Mississippi State University, where he became a die-hard Bulldog fan.

In 1955, Mr. Gordon was called into active duty for the U.S. Army, where he served three years in Korea, and again in 1961, when the Berlin Wall went up. He also served several years in the Mississippi National Guard.

He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in McComb, where he was ordained as a deacon in November 1968. He also served and taught Sunday school at Beverly Healthcare Nursing Home for more than30 years. He worked at MDOT for more than 37 years, until an injury forced his retirement.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Libby Hackler Gordon; two daughters, Laurin Shoemaker of Brandon, and Jane Ellen Slagle of Arlington, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Ray Gordon and Mildred of Greenville; one sister Alma Louise Smith; and three special nephews Jeff Gordon of Memphis, Tenn, Tommy Smith of Jackson, and Terry Smith of Houston, Tex; and two grandchildren Caleb and Emily Slagle.

Pallbearers will be James Clark, Tony Brooks, Fred Stuart, Steve Warren, Dan Lewman, and Brother Gordon. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church, as well as John Lewis Kennay, Bill Holloway, Bob Hudson, Louie Nolan, Earl Freeman and Byron Stephenson.

The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church in McComb.
