Mrs. Craig, 68 years old, died last Wednesday at her home in Brooklyn. She had been ill with cancer for several months.
Sophronia Akery Craig, daughter of Thomas Lane Akery and Louisa Jane Null Akery, was born April 10, 1890, at Richland, Missouri, and died Sept. 24, 1958, in Brooklyn. She moved with her family to Brooklyn in 1898.
She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1912 and from Nurse's School in Iowa City in 1916. Mrs. Craig served as an army nurse during World War I at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. and later followed her profession at Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown and the Northern Pacific hospital at Pasco, Wash.
She was married to Wallace Craig, Nov. 13, 1929, at Seattle, Wash. and the couple lived in Pasco, Wash. until returning to Brooklyn to live in August, 1955. At an early age she had become a member of the Brooklyn Christian church.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Nick (Marie) Patrock of Pittsburgh, Pa. and two granddaughters. She also leaves the following six sisters and two brothers: Mrs. John (Ethel) Quinlan of Iowa City, Mrs. Bertha Avery of Brooklyn, Mike and Dan Akery of Brooklyn, Mrs. Wallace (Lulu) Edelen of Brooklyn, Mrs. Dennis (Gertrude) Kraft of Brooklyn, Mrs. Kenneth (Ann) Bonebrake of Carmichael, Calif. and Mrs. Kennneth (Edith) Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Pat.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wallace Craig were conducted last Friday afternoon at two o'clock at Bramer's funeral home in charge of the Rev. G.H. Hulsebus, pastor of First Presbyterian church. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery where military rites were accorded by the American Legion post of Brooklyn. Serving as pallbearers were Ernest Andes, Peter De Corte, Harry Tinker, Otto Moitzfield, Paul Urfer and Harley Burch. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Ernest Andes and Mrs. P.W. Newman.
