He was a registered professional engineer in Texas. He graduated with a BSME from Oklahoma A&M, which is now called Oklahoma State University. He worked his whole career for Dallas Power & Light Co. He loved to fish and hunt and was a great cook. He married Lillie Mae "Bill" Morrison in 1937. They had 4 children and ten grandchildren. They both graduated from Madill High School, Madill Oklahoma, in 1929. James and "Bill" rest in the Wildwood Plot at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. He was a Grandson of Judge James Mann Hurt, who was presiding justice on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. He made fishing rods and sporterized military rifles for hunting. He was very self-sufficient.
