Born on Thursday, July 28, 1922 in New York City, Joe often spoke fondly of his childhood and loved the excitement of growing up in a big city. Stickball and jazz were his two passions until he met his future bride, Evelyn Murphy.
During World War II, Joe answered the call to service and spent three years in the SeaBees, stationed throughout the South Pacific.
After the war, Joe and Evelyn married and he studied to become a dental technician.
In early 1950s, they moved to New Milford, where they put down roots and raised their family. A skilled craftsman and hard worker, Joe eventually founded Vynalife Corporation, a dental laboratory.
Although busy running his company, Joe kept music a part of his life. As a member of the musician's union in North Jersey, he was an avid drummer and could frequently be found playing club dates on the weekends.
In 1985, Joe and Evelyn moved to Lion's Head South in Brick, where they lived for 19 years. They moved to Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls in 2004 and he lived there at Renaissance Gardens, where he was cared for with love until his passing.
Joe was a good talker and a better listener, but one of his strongest traits was humor- he had a way of making people laugh. He was a great story and joke teller and the life of the party. Joe was a special man and in the words of Phil Spector "To Know Him Is to Love Him".
Joe was predeceased by his parents, Pietro and Carmella (Millie) Chiavaro; his son, Joseph Jr.; and his older brother Vincent.
He is survived, for one day, by his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn; his daughter and son-in-law, Bernadette and Eric Jaeger; his sister-in-law, Bertha Chiavaro; his four grandchildren, Joshua Chiavaro, Dana and Connor Jaeger, and August Carabellese; and his nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Seabrook Village Benevolent Fund.
