A memorial service is planned for Feb. 5 at Sage Chapel on the Cornell University campus for Eleanor Sisson Malott, 94, Ithaca, N.Y. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Lawrence.Mrs. Malott, wife of former Kansas University Chancellor Deane W. Malott, died Friday, Jan. 14, 1994, at her home.She was born Feb. 5, 1899, in Honolulu, the daughter of Frank and Ellen Holden Sisson Thrum.She graduated from Hilo High School in 1918, and graduated from the University of California in Berkeley in 1922.She taught in Mill Valley, Calif., for many years.She was married Deane W. Malott on Aug. 15, 1925, in Mill Valley.Mrs. Malott became involved with Kansas University in 1939 when her husband, a KU graduate, was named chancellor.During their 12 years at KU, Mrs. Malott supervised several campus beautification projects, including extensive plantings of flowering crab apple trees. She also served as the Mortar Board's honorary president and was active in several other KU organizations.In 1951, she moved with her husband to Ithaca, N.Y., where he was named president of Cornell University. After his retirement in 1963, the pair traveled throughout the United States and several developing countries on behalf of the International Executive Service Corps.Survivors include her husband, Deane W. Malott, Ithaca; a son, Robert H. Malott, Chicago; two daughters, Edith M. LaBonte, Palo Alto, Calif., and Janet Elliot, Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
