ONEIDA - Mrs. Isabelle M. Decker, age 90, a former resident of 242 West Walnut St., Oneida, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 in James Square Nursing Home, Syracuse, N.Y. She was the widow of the late Charles V. Decker, a prominent resident of Oneida, N.Y., who died May 27, 2006.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1916 in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Hewitt McDivitt. The couple were married on April 17, 1943 in the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, N.Y.
She graduated from Syracuse University School of Education and School of Speech, where she was class valedictorian in 1939. Before moving to Oneida, she taught English, drama and speech in Eden, N.Y. For more than 20 years she served as full-time teacher, substitute teacher, and Adult Education public speaking teacher for the Oneida schools. She wrote a textbook for English teachers that sold more than 100,000 copies.
Isabelle was a member of the Zonta Club and active in community volunteer work for the library and First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving family members are her two sons, Charles Decker of Cookeville, Tenn. and Richard Decker of 418 Seneca Drive, Syracuse, N.Y. 13205.
