PETER BECK

"Peter Beck, born 21 June 1819 in Germany, died 21 August 1895 in Fox River Grove, married Tadora, born 14 November 1820, died 26 February 1905. They had two children: Mary, born 23 June 1857, died 30 December 1914 and Lena, born 1859, died 1938. Peter Beck farmed land in Fox River Grove on Plum Tree Road. The old Peter Beck farm has been owned by Oscar Elsner, T. R. Wulff, Edward Konopasek and G. A. Mankle, who sold to Sam Ross. Mr. Ross divided it into two pieces of which George J. Roche owns the old homestead and J. H. Hill the other portion.

Mary, first child of Peter and Tadora, married John Adam Bloner, born 24 December 1847 in Prague, Germany, died 19 September 1922, buried in St. John's Cemetery in Fox River Grove. John arrived in Fox River Grove about 1867 and farmed land on River Road. Mary and John purchased a 104-acre farm from Gottlief Gaedke on 1 March 1888. Of this, 12acres were sold to Harry Shannon in 1896, 13 1/2 acres to John Zelezny and Cyril Jandus and 12 acres to Edward Konopasek. The balance of the land and the farm (55 acres) were sold to Mr. J. Sabula on 21 January 1908 when Mr. Bloner moved to Cary with his family.

Mr. Sabula sold part of the acreage to Robert and Albert Krejci and the remainder is what is now Christianson's First Addition to Fox River Grove, which was subdivided in February 1924.

John was married before, but his first wife's name is unknown. They had four children: Philip, born 4 July 1872, died 1 May 1950, married Nettie Suchy; John, born 22 April 1882, died 17 March 1943, married Selma Klar November 1907; Matilda, born 1879, died 1948, married John Stinek; and Frances, married William Strobel. John and Mary had five children: Eva, married Henry Brennan; Gertrude, born 23 August 1893, died 22 February 1983, married Joseph Kvidera 13 July 1913; Rose, married Lawrence Kiltz; Mary, born 21 February 1888, died 10 December 1905;and Amelia, born 7 April 1897, died 1 September 1960, married August "Gus" Kraus 18 February 1925. (See August Kraus history).

Amelia was a charter member of the Cary Women's Club and a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Altar and Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. Amelia worked at the Cary State Bank on West Main Street in Cary before marrying Gus Kraus. The bank was located in the building now occupied by Henehan & McIntyre Ltd. 121 West Main Street. It was a two-story building at that time and Dr. Hull, a dentist from Algonquin, had his office on the second floor. Amelia told us of the times he would come downstairs to the bank and purchase gold pieces to melt down for use as fillings in his patients teeth. Amelia was one of the original planners for the tennis courts put in the Cary Park, now known as Veterans Park."
