He was born April 13, 1928, in the town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County, the son of the late John and Olga (Rohrbach) Hardrath. He attended Rockwood School in Rockwood. He was married Nov. 3, 1949 in Menominee, MI, to Lois Clark.
After marriage the couple resided in the town of Two Rivers, Manitowoc County, where Mr. Hardrath worked as a mechanic and a charter bus driver for the Safeway Motor Coach Company, moving to Stockbridge in 1974, where he owned and operated Hugie’s Service until 1982. Then he continued to work for the new owners, G & R. Service, Stockbridge until 1988 and then worked for J & E Construction in Stockbridge until his recent illness.
He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, and was presently Commander of the Stockbridge American Legion Post No. 128. He was a member of the Stockbridge Lions Club, and had served on the Stockbridge Village Board for several years. He was also an avid golfer and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, three daughters and sons-in-law; Mrs. Roger (Bonnie) Olson, Eagle River; Mrs. John (Gail) Busse, Mrs. Jeff (Lori) Schmitting, both of Stockbridge; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Terry and Susan Hardrath, Kellnersville, Ricky and Kay Hardrath, Stockbridge, Gary and Lori Hardrath, Hilbert; Greg and Lori Hardrath, Merrill; Micke Hardrath and his fiancé, Lori Moebus, Stockbridge, Brian and Marjorie Hardrath, Chilton; 23 grandchildren, a great grandchild, a sister and brother-in-law; Mrs. William (Ruth) Vande Hey, Antigo; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Alfred and Ruth Hardrath, Newton, Erwin and Alice Hardrath, Melvin Hardrath, both of Rockwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Fern; a granddaughter, a nephew, and a sister-in-law, Marion Hardrath.
Services were scheduled at the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, with Revs. Richard and Barbara Doerrer-Peacock officiating. Spring burial will be in Portland Cemetery.
