Nora Bernadette Urbain was born on October 24, 1895 near Placid, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph Urbain and Catherine McDermott. Nora was married to Joseph Then on February 11, 1920 at St. John's Catholic Church in Placid. Sadly, on Nora and Joe's six month anniversary, Joe was fatally injured when the horse he was leading through a gate, reared up and knocked him down. Nora moved back home and stayed to help her parents until the time of their deaths. Nora never remarried and never had any children of her own.
After the deaths of her parents, Nora lived with her brother, Dan, on the family farm. Eventually, Dan sold the farm and the two of them lived together in a house next to the farm of their brother, Joseph. Nora died on June 30, 1984 at Monticello, Iowa.
