According tho the Roster of Commissioned Officers (Adjutant General Military Records 1631 - 1976) Hiram Church was a Second Lieutenant of Company I of the Seventh Maine Infantry during the Civil War and was Honorably Discharged.

U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861 - 1865 listed his rank as Sgt. at enlistment and rank out as 2nd Lieutenant.

Hiram claimed his pension on March 14, 1864 and it was claimed by his wife Elvira H. on May 13, 1895. Service was listed as both Co. I Seventh and First Maine Veteran Infantry.

According to the 1870 census taken in Kansas, Hiram was born in Maine and his estimated birth year was 1825 or 1826. In the Church household were Hiram (44) and his wife Elvira H. (41) and children Henry (20), Alice (18), Cora (16), Ellen (14), Fredrick (10), Francis (10), and Lilly (5). All the Church children were born in Maine. Also in the household was Henry Varney (27) also from Maine. Hiram and Henry were listed as farmers.
