Mabel's parents are actually Hugh V and Della (Bush) Ball of Erie County, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Della, died soon after she gave birth to Mabel's younger sister, Tessie in January 1892. Her mother, Della remains unknown as to where she is buried as of now. Mabel and Tessie grew up with Hugh's second wife, Dora (Sprague) Ball as their step-mother.
