Opal Sneed King, 89, of Athens, died Saturday morning, May 21, 2005, at NHC Health Care of Athens.

A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Riley Robert and Lue Kinser Sneed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Benjamin King, on July 14, 1995; one granddaughter, Kathy Lamb; six sisters, Willie Mae Kennedy, Annie Bell Hughes, Ethel Womac, Myrtle Sneed, Arcie Goforth and Lissie ODaniel; and six brothers, Homer, Roy, Delmer, Ernie, Sam and Henry Sneed. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kathern and Fred Henry of Athens; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh V. and Carol King of Titusville, Fla., Cecil and Sue King of Decatur, and Bobby and Lorene King of Madisonville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, Christine and J.L. "Sonny" Farner; and special caregivers at NHC Health Care of Athens.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Jerry Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Kennedy, a special great-nephew, officiating. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in McMinn Memory Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The body will be in state at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
