First Blacksmith Of Elkhart Lake Passes Away At Plymouth
Samuel Klinsporn, Plymouth, known as the first blacksmith at Elkhart Lake and who formerly owned and operated a grain elevator there, passed away at 10:45 am Sunday (Aug 23, 1931), following a lingering illness, at his home on Plymouth Street.
Mr. Klingsporn was born in Prussia, Germany on September 24, 1850 and came to Milwaukee some time later, where he learned the blacksmith trade. Later he located at Elkhart Lake, where he resided until 1911, when he moved to Plymouth.
His wife, who was formerly Miss Elizabeth Kessel, passed away in 1892. Later he married Louisa Schaeferkort, who, with the following daughters, Mrs. Arno Donath, Milwaukee; Mrs. Adam Becker, Elkhart Lake; Mrs. C.O. Ludwig, Milwaukee; Mrs. W. W. Lindow, Sheboygan; Mrs. Walter Kohl, Plymouth and Mrs. A Wieland, Elkhart Lake, survive. He also has eleven grandchildren. One daughter Mrs. J. Donath and two sons, both of whom died in infancy, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday at the Wittkopp Funeral Parlors. At 2 o’clock a service will be held at the Salem Reformed Church. Rev. H. G. Schmid will officiate and interment will be in the Elkhart Lake cemetery. The body may be viewed this afternoon and evening until the hour of the funeral. (Sheboygan Press-Aug 24, 1931)
