Major League Baseball Player. For six seasons (1957 to 1962), he was a left-handed pitcher with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Athletics. Born Daniel Eugene McDevitt, he was raised in Hallstead, Pennsylvania, where he emerged as a star baseball player in high school; he attended St. Bonaventure University. Signed as an amateur free agent by the Yankees in 1951, he ended up with the Dodgers' organization; he made his Major League debut with Brooklyn on April, 20th 1957, and recorded 7 wins while posting a 3.25 ERA, in 22 games pitched during that year. McDevitt holds the distinction as the last Dodgers' pitcher to win at Ebbets Field, prior to the franchise's relocation to Los Angeles; he blanked the Pirates 2-0 in the Dodgers' final game at the historic venue on September 24th, 1957. In 1959, McDevitt secured the fifth starter position in the Dodgers' rotation (which included Don Drysdale, Johnny Podres, Sandy Koufax and Roger Craig), and produced a 10 win year; as Los Angeles was en route to capturing the 1959 World Series Title. In 155 career games, he compiled a 21 win 27 loss record, with a lifetime 4.40 ERA, in 456 innings pitched. Following his playing career, he served as a Minor League umpire and later worked in the real estate industry.
