Philip Davidson (1889-1948) was one of perhaps 17 children of Simon Davidson and his wife Jennie (née Simansky) Davidson, both of whom came from Russia and settled in New Bedford.

Simon and Jennie were the parents of so many children that it is impossible to adequately document how many they had. Several of their children, at least three or four, died as infants or were stillborn. These include Isaac Davidson (1877?-?) and Abraham Davidson (1882-1882) who died as infants, although there is speculation that Jennie had many more children who were stillborn. (There are some New Bedford birth certificates with a child's name, such as "infant Davidson" but no further information.)

Philip worked as a Justice of the Peace and as a constable after he married Eva Kersner on 20 June 1911 in New Bedford. He and Eva then had six children:

Ellis Davidson (1912-1998)
Lillian Davidson Ornstein (1915-1977)
Dorothy Davidson Sapirman (1916-1954)
Frederick Davidson (1923-1996)
Stanley Davidson (1928-2003)
Gerald Davidson (1933-2013)

A hard worker who walked and was the precinct captain for FDR and the Democrats in 1932 and 1936, Philip was denied the ability to rise to become the head of the NY Democratic Party because of rampant anti-Semitism.

Sickly, in declining health, Philip succumbed to a bad heart on 30 November 1948, and he was laid to rest in the Wellwood Cemetery in Babylon, New York. His widow, Eva Kersner Davidson, died at age 99 in 1988, outliving him by 40 years.
