Martin was named after Martin Van Buren, who was president of the United States at the time of Martins Birth. Martin was the oldest child of Robert and Amelia, he and his wife Cynthia lived in a log cabin near his father's farm, he died after suffering a heat stroke while plowing a field, and is buried in Elm Point Cemetery, Bond County Illinois.
