C. F. Ward Dies Jan. 14; Funeral Held In Normangee

Funeral services were held Jan. 16 for Commodore Frederick Ward at the Methodist church here. Mr. Ward died Jan. 14 at the Palestine hospital.
Services were held under the direction of Davis Cozart with Rev. A. L. Connor officiating, assisted by Rev. W. B. Wages, Rev. Lee R. Harris and Rev. Gordon Alexander pastor of the First Methodist church Overton.
Pallbearers, members of the Hensarling-Jones-Sowell post of the American Legion, Normangee were Jerome Martin, J. T. Dawkins, Lamar Palmer, Elmer Lagravier, Roger Shannon, Bill Miller. Rev. Harris presented the surviving widow with a U. S. flag.
Mr. Ward is survived by Mrs. Ward, a son Phil of Normangee,a brother, T. A. Ward of Overton; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Norman of Dallas and Mrs Mattie Rucker of Troup. Mr. Ward became a member of Henry's Chapel Methodist church at the age of 14. He is a veteran of World War I and a member of the Legion post at New Braunfels. He was a member the Masonic Lodge at Buffalo. He had been employed by the Missouri Pacific railroad for the past 15 years. He and Miss Tommie Palmer were married at the Methodist church in Normangee, Nov. 30, 1922.
Mr. Ward was highly esteemed and respected by Normangee people. He had a reputation of being honest and fair. He had not lived here for the past several years.
Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Ward, Rev. Alexander, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Still, Overton; Mrs. L. A. Norman, Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. Grover Rucker, Troup; Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Ward, Miss Mary Tom Ward, Palestine; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard C. Stribling, Tyler; Mrs R. R. Wiley, Mrs. Austin Roach, Oakwood; Mr. Martin, Itasca; Mrs. Russel, Mr. and Mrs. Myrl Wilson, Mrs. Elliott Martin, Mrs. Joe Grauman, Houston.
Mr. Ward spent 18 months in the army in occupation in Germany following World War I.
