Zeruah is the daughter of Joshua Maxwell and Mary Phipps Maxwell.

Zeruah and her husband Jacob separated in April 1805. Jacob posted an ad in the paper saying that Zeruah had left him and would no longer pay any of her debts. Zeruah posted an ad of her own a few days later stating that she had left Jacob claiming that he had been abusive to her and would no longer pay his debts.

She moved from Wyoming Co, PA to Delaware Co, OH when her children Joseph, Benjamin, Susan and Norman left to establish Delaware Co in 1809.
