My great-grandfather Ambrose Kane lived in or near Bealeton, VA in Fauquier County. I need to do research on his life but family lore (from my late father Ruben Ambrose Heflin b. 1896) says that Ambrose served in the Civil War for the CSA (this is fact). I believe that he enlisted early in the war and that he was in the 38th Battalion, Virginia Light Artillery (Read's).

"He enlisted at age 30 on 7 Jan 1861 in Markham, Virginia. He was a private on 1 Jul 1861; he was enlisted in the Virginia Fauquier Light Artillery Battery." - from Diana Szakacs
