Theodore was born in the small German town of Ankum to Johann Heinrich Friedrich Von Bokern and Maria Elisabetha Margaretha Homer. Due to Imperial German laws forbidding a single son to leave Germany, his father was never able to immigrate to the US as his five half-sisters had. However, most of his children would do so and Henry immigrated to the US in 1896 and settled in Louisville, KY, where his five aunts lived. On 07 Mar 1905 he wed Marie Elizabeth Feldmann and they had nine children: Bernadine, Mary Elizabeth, Lawrence, Evelyn, Francis, Theodore, Louis, Joseph and Robert. For many years he owned and operated Von Bokern's Bakery on Frankfort Avenue. Theodore died of a coronary occlusion at his home, 111 N. Jane Street, at the age of 83.
