Mrs. Sheppard Rites Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Lester E. Sheppard, 48, Sandersville, who died Monday, Feb. 15, at Memorial Hospital of Washington County, following a long illness, were held Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. at Jackson Baptist Church. The church pastor, the Rev. Milton Wood, a former pastor, the Rev. Bill Deakins, of Wrens, and the Rev. Norman Williams, of Milledgeville, officiated. Interment followed in Washington County Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Sheppard was born Jan. 13, 1923 in Washington County and, she was the former Miss Doris Renfroe, daughter of the late Joe C. Renfroe and Mrs. Sara Chambers Renfroe. She was a member of Jackson Baptist Church, the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and of the Eastern Star. She was married to the late Lester E. Sheppard.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Linda Brown Josey, and Mrs. Edwin Thompson, both of Milledgeville; four sons, Donald Brown, Cecil Brown, and Christopher Sheppard, all of Sandersville, and Lester Sheppard, Jr., Atlanta; five grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Joe Renfroe, grandmother, Mrs. J.L. Chambers, both of Milledgeville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Active pallbearers were Green Jones, Frank May, Euree Curry, Wade Brown, C.E. (Bubber) Smith and William Wiggins.
Mayo Funeral Home was in charge.
