Zeb McGee
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 -- Zeb McGee of 20080 Hurley Rd., Oakboro, died at 2:36 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at his home.
He was born on Thursday, December 12, 1912, in Lumberton, Robeson County, NC.
He was employed by Quality Packaging, Oakboro as a packaging coordinator was a member of Church of God, Oakboro. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and taking care of his yard.
The family will meet at the home.
He is survived by his wife,-Edna Greene McGee of the home; a son-Robert L. McGee and wife, Judy, of Oakboro; grandsons-Robert McGee, Jr., Michael McGee and wife, Angelia, of Charlotte; and Mark McGee of Oakboro; a granddaughter, Julie Tucker and husband Chris of Oakboro; great-grandchildren, Cara, Emma, Rachel and Jessica; and caregivers, Mannie Poplin and Mary Herrin.
He was preceded in death by his father, John McGee.
Visitation will be at Big Lick Baptist Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, followed by the service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Springer and the Rev. Rick Williams will officiate and burial will be at Oakboro Cemetery in Oakboro.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001; American Cancer Society 6000 Fairview Dr., Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28210.
Services performed under the direction of Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Zeb was a man who was extremely active. Every where he lived he had a garden and enjoyed canning and freezing his produce. While he lived in Tennessee he also slaughter pigs and cured his own ham in his smoke house. While in Tennessee he worked for the city of Sparta in street maintenance…. Full time job when he was in his late 70’s!
When he lived in Oakboro he continued with his gardening and working again, this time as a packaging co-coordinator @ Quality Packaging and continued that job until he was involved in an accident in January 2007. He had run to the grocery store to pick some things up(age 94 and still driving) and when he was getting into his car he was hit by a car. His foot was almost severed, he was air lifted to CMC Hospital in Charlotte. Though the foot was reattached, this was the beginning of his down fall. He died 8-25-2007 of mestastic carcinoma- probably of the prostrate. Edna kept Zeb at home during his last days and he was surrounded by his wife-Edna, 2 grandsons-Bobby and Michael, 4 granddaughters-Cara, Emma, Rachel and Emma. His “favorite daughter-in-law”, Lynn was also with the family.
Zeb funeral was handled by Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, NC.
His funeral was at Big Lick Baptist Church and he is buried at Oakboro Cemetery, 1381 N. Main Street, Oakboro, NC.
