Marie Jane Baird was born on Nov. 28, 1781 in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Revolutionary War soldier, Thomas Baird II (1749-1834), and Hannah Esther Kilgore (1758-1790). Thomas is buried in the Upper Indiana Cemetery in Knox Co., Indiana. The burial site of Hannah, who died 44 years before Thomas is unknown.

Both of Jane's parents were born in Pennsylvania and married there in 1776. Jane's mother, Hannah, was just 32 when she died in Somerset Co., PA.

Jane's father, Thomas, remarried in 1791. He married widower, Elizabeth Jane "Eliza" Johnson (1765-1850). Born in Somerset Co., PA, she is thought to have been the daughter of Thomas Johnson (1740-1810) and Ann Finley (1745-1820).

In 1805, Jane married 51 year old (abt.) widower, Toussaint Dubois Sr. (1754?-1816), probably in the Old St. Francis Xavier Cathedral located in Vincennes, Indiana Territory. His first wife, Anne Jeanette "Janne" Bonneau, had died in 1800 at the age of about 28. She , too, is buried in the Old Cathedral Cemetery.

Jane and Toussaint were married about eleven years and had three known children. They were Thomas Baird Dubois (1806-1851), James Dubois (1810-1856) and Jesse Kilgore Dubois I (1811-1876).

Jane's husband, Toussaint, a merchant and trader with the Indians, drown in 1816 while attempting to cross the rain swollen Little Wabash River on horseback. He is buried in The Old Cathedral French and Indian Cemetery located in Vincennes where his first wife, Janne, was buried in 1800. His grave site is now one of the approximately 4,000 unmarked burials in that old and historic cemetery.

Jane was just 34 when her husband died in 1816, however, it is thought by most that that she did not remarry. She died on April 4, 1842 in Vincennes at the age of 60. Jane is buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery (aka Old Vincennes City Cemetery).
