North Ogden – Nora Janette Nelson Walton, 95, passed away August 16, 2010, at Willow Glen Care Center in Brigham City, Utah, surrounded by family. Nora was born January 5, 1915 in Sandy, UT, the daughter of Lars and Janetta Caroline Johannesen (Johnson) Nelson, both of who migrated to America with their respective families as teenagers from Norway and Sweden. She was raised in Murray, Utah and graduated from Murray High School in 1933.

As a young woman Nora attended nursing school at University of Utah and St. Marks Hospital and was a nurse's aid at the Cottonwood Maternity Hospital in Murray.

Nora married Marvin H. Walton April 30, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Ogden later that year where they raised their family of four children, and were active in the Mount Ogden LDS Ward. She taught primary, served as a stake missionary with Marvin and was a faithful visiting teacher for over 50 years. Marvin passed away July 22, 1992.

She was employed for many years in the surgical unit at Dee Hospital. She later was employed at the Dee Nursery School as a cook for 100 children for 18 years; and had a reputation as a very good cook. She also worked part-time for twelve years as a Jury Commissioner for Weber County.

Nora enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling with Marvin, spending time at Azure Cove and Bear Lake, and was a loyal Utah Jazz Fan. She will be best remembered for her ability to make a little food go a long way, her stuffed peppers, chili, fried chicken, gumdrop cake, home canning skills, and for all the loving care she gave Marvin over the last few years of his life. She had unconditional love for all her family, and will be dearly missed.

Nora is survived by on son; three daughters and their spouses, Kent M. and Carolyn Graves Walton, Mesa, AZ, Karen and Jeryl Marler, North Ogden, Beverly and Larry Crook, Harrisville and Barbara Rowley, North Ogden; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Nora was the last among her nine siblings; all of whom preceded her in passing.

The family expresses appreciation to Stoney Brooke Assisted Living, Access Hospice, especially Julie and Cama and all those who gave loving care to Nora at Willow Glen Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., where friends may call prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 AM.

Interment, Washington Heights Memorial Park, next to her eternal companion.
