The daughter of John and Hannah (Buckwalter) Beidler, she married Joseph Downing in 1813, but was left with six children when Joseph died in 1822. She remarried to Benjamin Riter, by whom she had five more children. Elizabeth was an early member of the LDS, arriving in Nauvoo about 1840.
