The Denstaedts emigrated in 1853 on the Ship Ella from Bremen. On the ship's passenger list their place of residence/origin was "Frankenhausen" and their name was spelled "Dennstedt." The last name continues to be either mispelled or changes through the years, but they are all related, regardless how it is spelled.

For several years Rudolph was a sailer on his brother Captain John Julius Denstaedt steam vessels on the Great Lakes

Rudolph lived in Detroit for many years after he arrived in the US with his family, up until the 1882-1883 Detroit City Directory. By the 1900 US Census, Rudolph is married and living in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. He and Mary were married about 1898 and she had three children by a previous marriage, Louis P., Josephine & Joseph C.

Rudolph was a night watchman at Quincy Cememt Block Company. He was 82yrs 5mth 4dy old when he died of a Carcinoma.

Mary was married to a Wettstein before and had three children which Rudolph helped raise.
