She was born Nov. 14, 1920 to Lenzy and Rosie (Bell) Guest in Texarkana, Texas, one of 15 children. She graduated from Bloom High School in 1939. She married Samuel Acker on Feb. 28, 1942 in Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Acker was employed by the U.S. Government for 54 years. She received the Outstanding Federal Employee Award in 1997 from the U.S. Postal Service; an award from the Treasury Department for Outstanding Service and an Honorable Service Award for her 54 years of service. She moved to La Junta in August, 2003. She was active in the Democratic Party, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, where she served as first vice president of membership, and was also active in the First Presbyterian Church in La Junta. Mrs. Acker enjoyed the special attention, kindness and friendship of neighbors and caregivers in her later years.
Mrs. Acker is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, including Beverly and David Akins, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and friend and confident Midge Cranson. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her husband.
