James E. Rafuse 1940
Conquerall Bank, March 30-

The community was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of James E. Rafuse after a few days illness. While working on the motor vessel "Shanaliam" at Weymouth he was struck a glancing blow with a piecce of cordwood. His condition at first was not considered serious but her was rushed to the hospital at Digby in a dazed state. Although no marks were visible he was unable to speak from the time of the accident and gradually grew worse. Everything that could be done was done but he passed away on Good Friday night at 10 o'clock at the early age of 47 years. He was highly respected and will be greatly missed.

He leaves to mourn a sorrowing wife, who before her marriage was Gladys Richard; and four children, Doris, training in North Adams Hospital, Mass.; and Carleton, Marie, and Virginia, at home. Besides are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Rafuse; three brothers, Captain P. Rafuse of the steamer "Elkhound"; Captain Allan Rafuse of Mille Roches, Ontario; Harry, employed at Hebb Motors, Bridgewater; seven sisters, Mrs. Rinaldo Neal (Tessa); Mrs. Joseph DeCosta (Geneva); Mrs. Robert Pearson (Vera); Kathleen, in training at North Adams Hospital, all residing in the United States; Mrs. P.G. Corbin at New Ross; Mrs. Percy Sperry at Conquerall Bank; Mrs. Bernice Bell of Pleasantville.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Conquerall Bank and was buried on Monday afternoon from his late residence, the Rev. Douglas Conrad officiating.

With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
