Bob graduated from William Chrisman High School and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He served in the European Theater of WW II as the ball turret gunner on a B-17 before being shot down over enemy territory. He was a prisoner of war for a year before being liberated on his twenty-first birthday. He returned to the States after the war and took over the operation of his father's company - J.R. Adams and Son Moving & Storage. He worked there 45 years and owned the company until his retirement in the mid-1990s. He was a member of the Heart of America P.O.W. Chapter, a long-time member and Past President of the Sertoma Club of Independence, member of the VFW and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.

Bob was preceded in death by his second wife Jadean Adams in 1999; first wife Nancy Adams in 2006; brother Harry Adams and sister Rozella Adams. He is buried next to his 2nd wife Jadean. Bob's brother-in-law [Melvon Carver] is also buried at Oak Ridge.
