Ernest E. Patella, 74, of Fairview Township, died Saturday at Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born Oct. 2, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of the late Ernest and Caroline (Rotto) Patella. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College, Jersey City, Newark College of Engineering and the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, N.J. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the 7th Division Infantry in the Pacific Theater and the Korean occupation troops. He was an engineer for RCA Corp. at various locations, including Mountaintop, and a former Fairview Township supervisor. He was a member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Mountaintop, a committee member of the United Way, and the first president of Step-By-Step. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Gialorenzo; and brother, Carmen. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Jude's Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Butler Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
