Benjamin Bascom Basnight, 72, of Mashoes, died early Wednesday morning at the Marine Hospital in Norfolk. Funeral services were conducted at the Manteo Methodist Church by Rev. M.W. Maness and burial was in Manteo Cemetery.

Mr. Basnight is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude Twyne Basnight; three sons: Charlie Basnight of Norfolk, Fred Basnight of Mashoes and Carson Basnight of Norfolk; three daughters: Mrs. Billy Tillett of Wanchese, Mrs. Wesley Johnson of Norfolk and Mrs. T.H. Midgett of Manns Harbor; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Basnight was born at East Lake, the son of the late William Henry Basnight and Nancy Jane Rogers Basnight and later lived for many years in Manteo. He moved to Mashoes about 25 years ago and had made his home there since that time.
