MANNS HARBOR - Leona Basnight Midgett, 89, died Saturday, July 7 in Elizabeth City. Mrs. Midgett was born on Roanoke Island and was employed as a seamstress with "The Lost Colony" outdoor drama for 15 years.
She was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 16 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Maude Twyne Basnight and the wife of the late Thomas Hunter Midgett.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Alice Twiddy and husband Mike of Manns Harbor; two sons: Thomas Hunter Midgett, Jr. and Ben Midgett and wife Linda, all of Manns Harbor; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10 at 1 p.m. in the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Tilley with burial in the church cemetery. Twiford's Colony Chapel in Manteo is handling arrangements.
