Mrs. Phenia Dodd Marshbanks Metcalf, 106, of the Stoney Knob community, Weaverville, died Monday at the home after a long illness.
A native of Madison County and a Buncombe County resident for the past nine years, she was the widow of Dudley C. Marshbanks who died in1924 and Gregg Metcalf who died in 1947. She was a daughter of John Henry Dodd and Elizabeth Ponder Buckner Dodd.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Chandler with whom she made her home, Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs of Mars Hill, Mrs. Pearl Boone of Burnsville and Mrs. Verdie Holt of Galax, Virginia; three sons, Willard Marshbanks of Farmington, Michigan, Joe Marshbanks of Charlotte and Fred Marshbanks of Biltmore; 36 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 33 great-great-grandchildren and a great-great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paint Gap Baptist Church in Madison County, of which she was a lifelong member. The Revs. James Gardner, L. Jack Holt and Willard Coffey will officiate. Burial will be in church cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Capps Funeral Home, Mars Hill, where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services.
