Married Lucetta Thurston, 1841, Orange, Vermont. He lost parents while young, and became self-supporting. In October 1837 he settled in Guilford Township, Winnebago county,IL. He built a log cabin on his claim, and then returned to Orange, Vermont to marry his wife before coming back to Illinois. In 1849 he went to the gold fields of California by walking all the way. His return trip was through Cape Horn in a sailing vessel. He made bricks as an occupation. Known children: Charles A.; Calista Ann; Oramel A.; and Calista A.
