Ermand F. Thoele, 91, of Teutopolis, passed away at 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Ermand was born on April 21, 1919 in Teutopolis to Henry and Carrie (Vahling) Thoele. He married Dorothy G. Hewing on November 14, 1946 and she survives.

He belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus #2874, and the Teutopolis American Legion Post #924, and was a past member of National Farmers Organization (NFO). He was in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Teutopolis; 3 sons, Michael (Kathy) of Teutopolis, Jerry (Connie) of Effingham, and Donnie (Beverly) of Effingham; 6 daughters, Sharon (Bob) Lee of Teutopolis, Janice (Tom) Koester of Teutopolis, Marlene Lange (Jeff Matheny) of Effingham, Carol Thoele of Effingham, Patty (Eric) Ruholl of Teutopolis, and Jane (Greg) Schumacher of Teutopolis; 1 brother, Harry (Lorene) Thoele of Teutopolis; 32 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter; six brothers, Alf, Albert, Leo, Frank, Maurice, and Jerome; and one sister, Selma (Bueker) Zumbahlen.

Ermand was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and never knew a stranger. He was a full-time farmer who also enjoyed working along side his brother Harry as a crop-sprayer. In the winter months, he worked as an electrician and plowed snow through the evenings.

After his retirement in 1978, Ermand and his wife Dorothy of 63 years shared a passion for campfire and card playing. Many a celebration were held at "The Thoele Family Pond." Many nights one could find Ermie driving his golf cart with his grandchildren perched on his knees headed to the pond to go feed the fish.

The sound of his whistle will never fade away and the love that we cherish will remain forever in our hearts.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites.
