William Layton Phillips, 79, of Pine Bank, R. D. 2 (Kuhntown), died at 2 a.m. Sunday, December 22, 1968, following a long illness.

He was born May 13, 1889, in Wayne Township near Kuhntown, a son of the late Jesse Leasure and Elizabeth Jane Cole Phillips. His wife, Artie Main Phillips, whom he married October 13, 1912, survives.

Mr. Phillips had lived all his life in the Kuhntown area where he was a member of the Kuhntown Methodist Church.

He was a retired farmer and stockraiser and for a number of years was employed as a tool dresser in the oil and gas fields.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Artie Phillips, are one daughter, Clarice, wife of William Alfred Patterson, of Waynesburg; three sons; Forney O. Phillips, of Waynesburg, R. D. 4; Howard W. (Jack) Phillips, of Erie; and Robert E. Phillips, of Aliquippa, R. D. 2; six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ocie Headley, of Pine Bank, R. D. 2.

One son, Raymond G. (Doc) Phillips, and one brother, Walt L. Phillips, are deceased.
