Iona (Sis) Elmore Denmark, age 88, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (January 10, 2011) at Grayson Manor Nursing Home in Leitchfield.
She was born on January 14, 1922, in Grayson Co., KY, the daughter of the late Edward and Dolly (Decker) Elmore. Iona worked in Louisville at the Brown Hotel in the 1940's and remarried and moved to Savannah, GA and worked at Union Camp Paper Mill in Cafeteria and later at Krispy Kreme Donuts in the packing department. She then moved to Orlando, FL and lived with her youngest son, David Denmark until she moved back to Leitchfield in the 80's. She was a member of the Antioch General Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Robert Lee Elmore (Theresa) and Harold (Carolyn) Elmore both of Leitchfield, and David Denmark(Kim) of Florida, one daughter, Debora A. Denmark of Florida, four brothers, Norman, J D and Howard Elmore all of Leitchfield, and AD Elmore of Clarkson, one sister, Rheuelma (Elmore) Newton of Clarkson, her grandchildren, Cyndi Maxwell and Robbie Elmore (deceased), Jessica M Denmark, Rachael Denmark, Randy C. Reeder Jr. (Miranda), Rick A. Reeder (Becca), Ross R. Reeder (Jennifer), her great-grandchildren, Jennifer Maxwell, Kristen Elmore, Corey Reeder, Cylie Reeder, Ross I Reeder and Julie Reeder and several nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Glenn (Jimmy) Elmore, a sister, Maxine Elmore and a step-mother, Oma (Decker) Elmore.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (January 13, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Damon Lasley will be officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 5:00 .m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
