Agnes embarked from Greenock, Scotland and arrived in New York on board the "Lady of the Lake" on June 21, 1834 along with son John and her daughter Frances. Following their arrival in the United States, Agnes and Frances first lived with Andrew and Isabella Tait in Trumbull, Connecticut. Isabella was Agnes's daughter from her first marriage to James Ronaldson.

Agnes then went to Iowa to live with Andrew Safley, her husband's nephew, and his wife, Margaret (Hunter) Safley. Agnes died in 1842 near Mount Vernon (Linn County) Iowa. She is buried in Abbey Creek Cemetery, rural Mount Vernon (Linn County) Iowa.
