"Betty Frances Hanover Carney, 71, of Louisville, formerly of Memphis, TN, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Baptist Hospital East, with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She graduated from Central High School in Memphis and attended Memphis State University. Betty was a member of Congregation Adath Jeshurun and its Sisterhood, a lifetime member of Hadassah, and a Lion of Judah.
She was the daughter of the late Morris and Sadye (Solomon) Hanover; and the sister of the late, Jack Ronald Hanover. Betty is survived by her loving husband, David M. Carney; six children, Marc Carney (Sandra) of Newton, MA, Michael Carney (Abby) of Highland Park, IL, Martin Carney (Ellen) of Prospect, KY; Marla Grossman (Jeffrey) of St. Louis, MO, Marilyn Carney of Louisville, Caren Bailen (Michael) of Louisville; 11 grandchildren whom she loved spending time with, Joshua, Daniel, Rachel, Adam, Anna, Isabel, Brandon and Rebecca Carney and Noah, Alanna and Jonah Grossman; a sister-in-law, Adele Hanover of Far Rockaway, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with visitation beginning at noon Sunday.
