Claire B. Harned, 87, formerly of Hughestown, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, in Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Harrisburg. Born in Pittston on July 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Ella Williams Burke. She graduated from Hughestown High School. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Hughestown and its Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to read and was an avid bridge player at the Pittston Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1996; son, Thomas in 1966; sisters, Elynor Burke, Catherine Mayock, Margaret Sullivan and Mary English; and brothers, Joseph Burke and Richard Burke. Surviving are daughters, Elizabeth (Libby) and her husband, Bill, Harrisburg; Mary Ellen Clarke, Maryland; Nora Harned, Illinois; Catherine Harned Hall, Illinois; sons, Richard Harned, Pittston; Michael Harned, Massachusetts; James Harned, Texas; Eugene Harned, Illinois; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Rock Street, Hughestown. Interment will be in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
