The funeral services of the late Mrs. Mary Patterson, whose death occurred Wednesday night of last week, were held from the home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, Nov. 29th, conducted by the Rev. G.F. Cannom and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends of the family, and the remains tenderly laid to rest in East Linwood cemetery. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, attesting the general esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew her. A quartet composed of Misses Harriett Holmberg and Martha Williams and Messrs. Milo Slade and Alfred Nelson furnished the music. The pall bearers were Geo. Rogers, E.E. Richer, Duncan Grant, W.B. Sherman, T.B. Holmes and W.H. Cummings, all old friends of the deceased. Mary Hull was born near Newark, Ohio, Sept. 8, 1844, making her in her 64th year at the time of her death. She came with her parents to Boone County in 1852, and has made her home here continuously since. March 27, 1862, she was united in marriage with J.B. Patterson. They resided on a farm near Luther for many years and later removed to Boone, making their home in the Fifth ward. Her husband served for a number of years as deputy sheriff of Boone County and for some time was in charge of the post office in Boonsboro. About fourteen years ago she was stricken with paralysis, from which she never fully recovered and has been more or less a sufferer ever since. Death resulted from paralysis of the brain, the final illness commencing early in October. She was a devoted member of the Marion Street M.E. church and when her health permitted, was an active Christian worker and throughout her long illness was a patient sufferer, often sustained by the true spirit of Christianity. She leaves her husband and seven children: Chas. H. Paterson of Luther; Mrs. A.D. Jenkins, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; W.C. Patterson of Chicago, and W.U., Emma R. Sarah and Gertrude, of Boone, to mourn her death.
