B-17F, probably serial number 23427, 1943
Front: Irving Lifson, navigator, Hiram Skogmo, pilot, Alvin Jaspers, co-pilot, Merle Cloud, bombardier.
Back: Ralph Sindeldecker, engineer/top turret, Johnnie Adams, radio, Jack Fariss, ball turret, Patrick Welch, Ernest Phillips, waist gunners, Richard Blackburn, tail gunner.
Skogmo, Cloud, Sindeldecker, Adams, Fariss, and Welch were killed in action on December 11, 1943, along with Command pilot Ralph Hansel and tail gunner Whitney "Billy" Poythress in B-17G, serial number 231122. Phillips, along with Command navigator Donald Warren and navigator Irving Lifson, parachuted and were taken prisoner.
