Mr. Anthony "Tony" James Gillespie Sr. died 06-07-2009, after a 3 year battle with cancer. Mr. Gillespie was 47 years old. He was born in Vicenza, Italy.

Mr. Gillespie graduated from Ashland High School in Ashland in 1980; where he played football, basketball, tennis and track for the Ashland Bluejays. He attended Hutchinson Junior College in Hutchinson, Kan., in 1981. Tony was employed at Gerdau MacSteel in Fort Smith for 21 years, where he was a member of the USWA Local No. 9452. He loved attending his children's ballgames, fishing and wood working and was an active member of Greenwood United Methodist Church. Tony was loved by so many and will be missed greatly.

Mr. Gillespie was preceded in death by his father: Robert Allen Gillespie Sr.; 1 nephew: Dustin Millam; and 1 great-niece: Taryn Jellison.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years: Robin Gillespie, and four children: Jake and Paxton of the home, Anthony "Tony" James Gillespie Jr. of Spiro, Oklahoma, and Ashley and husband Justin Hobbs of Pocola, Oklahoma.
1 grandson: Ashtin Hobbs of Pocola, Oklahoma; his mother and step-father: Kay and Bob Harmon of Ashland, Kansas; three sisters: Teresa and husband Gary Jellison, and Kim and husband Stan Hazen, all of Protection, Kansas, and Debbie Jarrett of Hutchinson, Kansas; three brothers: Darren Harmon of Great Bend, Kansas, Chris and wife Melanie Gillespie of Perryton, Texas, and Robert and wife Sybrina Gillespie of Alma, Arkansas; his grandmother: Edna Johnson of Ashland; 15 nephews and nieces; and nine great-nephews and great-nieces; and many, many dear friends.


Funeral services were held on Friday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood United Methodist Church under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

Pallbearers were: Greg Goodnight, Kevin Clagg, Larry Jones, Tomas Rodriguez, Don Melby, Todd Treadway and Justin Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony's nieces and nephews.
