On page 389 of the official roster of "The Soldiers of the American Revolution" buried in State of Ohio, is a paragraph for Thomas Watson of Fairfield County. It states that in 1779 this particular soldier was in Capt. John Gist's Company, Col Nathaniel Gist's Third Maryland Reginment. His Birthdate and birthplace is stated as 1756, County Down, Ireland. He would have been just 23 when his name appeared on the roster of the 3rd Maryland Regiment. Additional data lists the family of Thomas, his death date 1822 and burial site at New Salem, Ohio.Thomas' family traditionally came from County Down, Ireland and "the family" settled in Washington County Maryland. DAR application of Faye Sperry Yost #376361 names children of Thomas Watson and gives his birth place and date. The children named are: William, Christianna, Jane, Elizabeth, Margaret and James Clelland. She cites the Watson Family Bible which was in the possession (1948) of Belle Watson, Thornville, Perry County Ohio.
Daniel Hall and William Watson were named as executors for Thomas' estate. The estate records indicate that $12 was spent on Thomas' grave marker. An estate notice was published in Aug 1822 & March 1828 in the Ohio Eagle.
