James Meadows Succumbs At 82
James Albert Meadows, 82, of Abraham died at the home of a stepson, Paul Bragg of Cleveland, Ohio, at 5 p.m. Sunday after a long illness.
He was born in Raleigh County, May 20, 1882, a son of the late Preston and Jamima Meadows.
A retired school teacher, he had taught in the public school system in Raleigh County for 45 years. He had attended Concord College at Athens and was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church at Abraham.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Birdie Meadows of Abraham; three sons, Emmit and Willard, both of Beckley, and Noel of Falls Church, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Walton (Alma) Riffe of Crab Orchard; five other stepsons, James and Leonard Bragg, both of Cleveland, Charles and Edward Bragg both of Abraham, and Beecher Bragg of Beckley; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Marie Arthur of Abraham; an adopted son, Willard Meadows of Cleveland; two brothers, George of Meadow Creek and Thomas of Delray; and two half-brothers Dewey Meadows of Crow and Norman Meadows of Logan.
An ambulance from Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home left Beckley at 6 p.m. Sunday to retrieve the body.
Funeral arrangements pending.
